GRATITUDE

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of non-stop work! Building a brand through this medium (Photography & Art) is really a feat. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve always loved aesthetics, decor, ambiance and beauty in general. I just love to create.

My Marilyn said to me just yesterday, that I create “Emotional Landscapes” through my photography, which I thought was brilliant. It’s so easy to become fixated on the outcome, on bringing your dreams and visions to fruition. Researching. Editing. Revamping. Adjusting. It’s a lot. I am a STRONG believer in the practice of daily gratitude & I’ve been sensing a gentle “nudge” inside of me, to be still, enjoy the process and thank God for my gift — regardless of where it takes me.

So, recently, this “nudge” came in the form of a reminder when I received a request from the good people on the board of the NYC Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to donate my work to be auctioned at their 30th Annual Gala on April 30, 2015. These wonderful people work at institutions across New York City and provide impeccable care to patients and caregivers diagnosed with cancer everyday. Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity and I’m so grateful. I hope they love it!

PERSPECTIVE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY

Anyone that’s spent time with me or who has followed me on social media probably knows that while I’m very much a “New Yorker”, I’m also very much not one! You see, I’ve really just adapted. I’m conditioned. My heart lies in anywhere the Sun is shining hard and brightly for the vast majority of the year. I can't stand shoes and layers of clothes. I love the ocean, warm breezes, rocks I can climb, fruit — you get the picture. So, until we actually make the move to Southern California, I’ve committed to seeking out the beauty that lies within NYC. It’s really all about perspective — what we “choose” to see (and not see). I choose beauty and inspiration, and boy did I find some! In my own borough at that:

Queens is not only the largest (geographically) borough in NYC, but it’s also the most culturally diverse. 2.2 million people reside in Queens alone. This was a much needed gratitude walk around this awesome borough and I ended up finding that beauty I was looking for.

NEW YORK CITY LIFE

Much like (almost) everyone I know who lives in NYC, we’re over this beating we’ve taken during this particularly brutal winter. I try to see the beauty in the winter season and the colder months, but I always wind up with nada. I made it a point this season, to not hibernate and bury myself in editing and still shots that I can do while warm and comfortable indoors, but to venture outside whenever the opportunity and the weather permits. This is what I came up with:
